********* THIS SECTION AND LINKS ARE UNDER CONSTRUCTION ******** Current and proposed exhibitions by Cumbria-based photographer Tony Riley. They are presented in reverse date order - most recent first.
All exhibitions are available to venues by arrangement - contact Tony. Image licences for reproducing pictures are available, and fine art prints can also be purchased - prices for a required size may be looked up in the Picture Library section. Near and Far A joint retrospective exhibition with mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington. Both photographers have spent a lifetime photographing mountain areas worldwide. Now living in Cumbria, they find a synergy in their responses to local and distant regions. The exhibition comprises over 40 A2 fine art prints in a limited edition of 50 only, and has been very well received at several venues.
Opened at The Theatre by the Lake in Keswick in Sept 2007, then featured at the Kendal Mountain Film Festival, Kendal Brewery Arts Centre. It is at the Alpine Club in Charlotte Rd, London EC2 (020 7613 0755) from Feb 11 to 6 May 2008. Further venues are sought from 9 June 2008. Time Aside A personal exploration made as an experiment to focus on creativity. The images were very influenced by abstract expressionist and other painters who experimented with photography, such as Rodchenko, Sean Scully, Picasso and others. Featured in the Saatchi Online Gallery. The exhibition was shown in 2006 at the Theatre by the Lake, Keswick, followed by the Brewery Arts Centre and Artisan Galleries in Kendal.
A further exhibition of experimental abstracts is in preparation based more in the work of abstract painters like Sean Scully who experimented with photography. Secret Eden A joint exhibition with writer/poet Kathy Jones from Appleby, as a response to living in and discovering the Eden Valley. The black and white images and poetry proved to be a very cross-fertilising project for both artists.
It was presented in two versions, Secret Eden 1 at The Mill in Appleby in 2000, and Secret Eden 2 which toured several locations from the Penrith Museum.
